Materials needed

Step-by-step

Remove the drain cover or unscrew the stopper to expose the opening.

Shine a light in to see the hair mass sitting just below the strainer.

Feed the barbed tool down, twist it to snag the hair, and pull it out slowly.

Repeat until the tool comes back clean.

Run hot water to confirm fast drainage.
- 6
Clean and reinstall the stopper or cover.
Common mistakes
- • Pouring corrosive drain chemicals that harm pipes and finishes
- • Forcing the tool and losing it down the pipe
- • Not wearing gloves for a very unpleasant job
Maintenance & next steps
Use a hair-catcher strainer and pull it monthly to prevent future clogs.
For clogs deep in the main line, standing sewage, or multiple drains backing up at once.
