Tools needed
- Cordless drill with step bit
- Screwdriver set
- Level
Materials needed
- FilterScan Wi-Fi monitor
- Premium MERV 11/13 HVAC air filters
Step-by-step
- 1
Shut the furnace off at the thermostat and pick a spot on the return air duct near the filter.
- 2
Drill the air pressure sensor port into the return duct with a step bit.
- 3
Mount the monitoring module level next to the port and connect the sensor tube.
- 4
Install a fresh MERV 11 or 13 filter so the baseline reading is accurate.
- 5
Power on the module, calibrate the baseline air restriction per the app, and join it to Wi-Fi.
- 6
Confirm it reports to your phone and will alert you when airflow drops.
Common mistakes
- • Drilling into the wrong side of the filter slot
- • Calibrating with a dirty filter installed
- • Mounting the module where Wi-Fi is weak
Maintenance & next steps
Replace the filter when the app alerts, and re-baseline after each change.
For sealed or hard-to-access ductwork, or if you're uncomfortable drilling the plenum.
