Tools needed
- Rubber squeegee
- Snap-off utility knife
- Lint-free cloth
- Tape measure
Materials needed
- Ceramic heat-control window film
- Application spray solution
- Spray bottle
Step-by-step
- 1
Clean the glass spotless — any speck shows under the film.
- 2
Measure and cut the film slightly oversized, keeping the liner on.
- 3
Mist the glass generously with the slip solution.
- 4
Peel the liner while spraying the adhesive side, then lay the film on the wet glass.
- 5
Mist the film surface and squeegee out water and bubbles from the center outward.
- 6
Trim the edges with a fresh blade against a straightedge and squeegee the perimeter tight.
Common mistakes
- • Installing on dry glass so it can't be positioned
- • Trapping dust that shows as specks
- • Trimming the film flush with no slight gap, so it lifts at the edge
Maintenance & next steps
Let the film cure for a few weeks before cleaning, then use only soft cloths and mild cleaners.
For large storefront glass, or if your window warranty prohibits aftermarket film.
