Tools needed
- Pressure washer (3200 PSI)
- 24-inch muck squeegee
- Long-handled masonry broom
- Variable-speed mud mixer drill attachment
- Painter's tape
Materials needed
- Newcrete Concrete Resurfacer (40 lb bag)
- 5-gallon mixing buckets
- Clean water
Step-by-step
- 1
Deep-clean the slab with a pressure washer at ~3200 PSI and let the surface go damp, not wet.
- 2
Tape off expansion joints and boundaries so the overlay stops in clean lines.
- 3
Mix Newcrete in 5-gallon buckets to a pourable, lump-free slurry, mixing only what you can place in a few minutes.
- 4
Work in small horizontal sections, pouring a ribbon and spreading it thin with the 24-inch muck squeegee.
- 5
Immediately drag a long-handled masonry broom across each section for a uniform non-slip texture.
- 6
Keep sections wet-edged so they blend, then let it cure before foot traffic.
Common mistakes
- • Mixing a full batch and losing it to rapid pot-life
- • Letting the slab dry out mid-pour so sections don't bond
- • Brooming too late after the surface has skinned over
Maintenance & next steps
Apply a breathable concrete sealer after 30 days and reseal every couple of seasons.
For structural cracking, drainage problems, or slabs that are pitted deeper than 1/2 inch.
